Savannah, GA –
A key component of a college education is applying knowledge from an academic setting to the real world. AshBritt, the leading national disaster recovery firm, committed to a 3-year partnership with Savannah State University (SSU) in Spring 2019. Two pillars of the AshBritt-SSU partnership are (1) providing opportunities for students to apply skills learned in the classroom real world work and (2) sharing knowledge from the field with students in the classroom.
Since launching the partnership in Spring 2019, SSU students have:
- Toured active Hurricane Michael debris removal operations in the Florida Panhandle
- Two students held paid summer internships
- AshBritt CEO Brittany Perkins Castillo gave a guest lecture at SSU, “Exploring Career Paths: The Disaster Response and Recovery Industry”.
For many students, the lecture provided insight on one sector within the Emergency Management field – that of post natural disaster debris management. Career paths and opportunities in the private sector were discussed.
“SSU has a strong Emergency Management program, preparing tomorrow’s emergency management leaders. The more exposure students get to actual disaster response operations during their education, the more prepared they will be entering the workforce”, said Brittany Castillo, CEO.
